Physical Therapy in Virtual Reality

Inspiration for Project

Stroke is the leading cause of long term disability in the world. Over 198,750 people each year have a stroke that have effects that they must deal with for the rest of their lives. The specific disability our application is made for is the partial loss of motor skills in the hand, which are precise, coordinated movements, such as using your fingers to pick up a coin.

PVRT is an application made for patients who have had a stroke and have lost motor skills in either of their hands. This application, through the usage of games, helps the patient strengthen their hand. These games reflect exerises that many of these patients do at the physical therapist office. Instead of spending up to $420 per session at a physical therapist's office, you could simply download this application and use it with the only expenses being a one time fee for the Oculus Rift and the Leap Motion to exercise/work on their hands.
